Set of 4 Enesco Henri Matisse Coasters: Blue Nude I and Sheaf. Dimensions: 10x10cm.
Henri Matisse is one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, famous for his revolutionary use of color and form. Matisse transformed modern art by proving that color and the simplicity of forms are enough to express immense vitality and profound beauty.
The Leader of Fauvism: In the early 1900s, Matisse became the leader of the Fauvist movement. He freed color from its realistic function, using vivid, pure, and expressive tones that surprised the public of the time.
Style and Philosophy: Unlike other artists of his time, Matisse did not seek to provoke anxiety. His goal was to create balanced, pure, and serene art, capable of bringing joy and comfort to the viewer. His favorite themes included nudes, interiors, still lifes, and landscapes.
Mastery of Drawing: In addition to being a genius colorist, he possessed an exceptional mastery of line, capable of capturing the essence of a subject in just a few strokes.
Cut-out Gouaches: At the end of his life, ill and confined to a wheelchair, he invented the "cut-paper" technique. He sculpted directly into color with scissors, creating monumental and highly modern works (such as the Blue Nudes series or the stained-glass windows of the Vence Chapel).
