Volume 1 of Las aventuras de Tintín, the beginnings of one of the most universal characters in European comics. The book brings together the first three stories that brought the young reporter to life: Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, Tintin in the Congo, and Tintin in America. Limited edition of 1000 copies. 272 pages. Catalan.
In this first adventure, which began to be published in comic strips in the children's supplement of the Belgian newspaper Le Vingtième Siècle, Hergé begins to draw the man who would become the most famous reporter of all time: Tintin. For his first trip, he sends him to the Land of the Soviets, a move made by the anti-communist propaganda newspaper, a decision Hergé later regrets. Upon returning from the former Soviet Union, Hergé is commissioned to send the young reporter to the Congo, then a Belgian colony, and the resulting comic is an excellent representation of the European view of Africa at the time. In the third adventure in this volume, Tintin must change continents and travel to North America, where he will have to confront the terrible Chicago gangster syndicate, among which is the infamous Al Capone.
Hergé wanted to show as much of America as possible, including the diverse landscapes, large cities and industries, the prohibition of alcoholic beverages, and the plundering of the Red Indians, denouncing the way they were driven from their lands when oil was discovered there. This is the first volume of a new commemorative edition that will bring together the 24 comics that make up The Adventures of Tintin, in a new compact format, ideal for discovering—or rediscovering—the intrepid adventures of the most famous reporter and his faithful dog.
Almost 100 years after its first publication, Hergé remains one of the greatest exponents of European comics.
