Dakota, 1880. Accompanied by Hank Bully and young Baldwin, Lucky Luke escorts a stagecoach to California. A journey from the north to the west of the United States, told in seven stories and as many encounters. Freed slaves, romantic or incendiary women, a visionary photographer, ace revolvers, poets, and Indians thus cross Lucky Luke's path. 80 pages. B&W. French.
The story takes place in Lucky Luke's youth, as he accompanies a stagecoach crossing America from East to West, passing through the snowy northern territories. The cowboy doesn't yet ride Jolly Jumper, nor does he know the Daltons or Rantanplan. And, in another twist of the story, one of the convoy's passengers narrates these adventures.
These adventures are a little darker than classic Lucky Luke films, with an atmosphere sometimes reminiscent of spaghetti westerns or Tarantino films. Brüno's realistic yet stylized style, coupled with highly cinematic framing effects, reinforces this impression, which will delight fans of the genre.
