Following hot on the heels of recent news about the colour edition of “Tintin in the Land of the Soviets”, comes word of a new companion volume also appearing in January.
Noted Tintinologist Philippe Goddin has written a new illustrated book on the subject of this first adventure, looking at how it came to be, how Hergé wrote and drew it, and the influences upon it, and examining its rôle establishing Tintin as a popular comic-strip hero.
Having been involved in the BBC documentary on the same subject I am aware of just how important a book for the series it is, and how its relative obscurity for many decades, together with the lack of any significant revisions by Hergé over the years makes it a fascinating time-capsule of the birth of a legend.
