Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter, graphic artist and art theorist. He lived and worked in Germany and France. Kandinsky was an expressionist artist, a companion of abstract art and taught at the Bauhaus, among other places. In his work, Kandinsky lets us immerse ourselves in a cosmos of colors and shapes. He wanted to formulate a language that evokes strong emotions. The painting Composition VIII does exactly that. In 1930 it was bought by Solomon R. Guggenheim and was the beginning of a collection that is still on display today in the Guggenheim in New York.
