The tale of The Little Prince is indeed an initiatory story in which the main character leaves his planet to discover others. By emphasizing travel, Monnaie de Paris also pays direct tribute to Antoine de Saint Exupéry, a great traveler himself through his profession as an aviator.

On the obverse side, the Little Prince and the fox are settled within a wide-open book that seems to float against a starry sky in the background. Each leaning over an edge of the book, the two characters appear to be searching for something. Near the Little Prince, a hurricane lamp and a compass show that the child and his friend are in the midst of an exploration, ready to cast light on the shadows and navigate through the depths of the space surrounding them. The open book serves not only as a literal means of transport but also as a reminder of the medium that has carried the tale of the Little Prince for 80 years. It gives birth to the most beautiful stories and makes dreams possible. In the sky, where a single planet floats among the stars, the name "Le Petit Prince" is inscribed along the coin's rim.

On the reverse, the 80th-anniversary logo of the Little Prince, featuring the character's bust leaning on his hand in front of the number 80, sits above the face value. Along the rim, the name "Le Petit Prince" is inscribed in French, English, German, and Japanese, recalling the character's universal appeal.
