To mark the 80th anniversary of the publication of this iconic work in France, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to the little traveler from the stars through a collection illustrating 80 years of adventure and travel, highlighting the various modes of transport associated with the Little Prince's journeys. Accordingly, airplanes, planets, compasses, telescopes, and luggage blend into original creations that serve as a call to adventure. The tale of The Little Prince is indeed an initiatory story in which the main character leaves his planet to discover others. By emphasizing travel, Monnaie de Paris also pays direct tribute to Antoine de Saint Exupéry, a great traveler himself through his profession as an aviator.
On the obverse side, the Little Prince is sitting cross-legged on the ground of his planet at the center of the coin. He gazes kindly at the fox he is cuddling on his lap. Behind him, his rose, planted in the planet's soil, stands under a glass dome. The sky in the background is filled with stars, where a planet and an unmanned biplane can also be seen. The airplane is both a tribute to the author of the tale, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, an aviator by profession, and to the theme of travel explored in this collection. The inscriptions "Le Petit Prince" and "80 ans" as well as the 2026 year date are featured on the design.
The reverse side displays the face value surrounded by two branches, one oak and one laurel, evoking the Euro symbol. The entire reverse motif is framed by the words "République Française" and a series of lines representing the Hexagon.
