BB-8 is a small, two-coloured astromech droid, the "pet droid" of Poe Dameron, who has a strong attachment to him. BB-8 is entrusted by Poe Dameron with the map to Luke Skywalker, and is the element that initially gives him a strong importance in Rey's arc, at the moment when the resistance needs the Jedi's return the most... He meets Rey on Jakku when he is about to be captured by a scrap metal dealer named Teedo, who is surely after his spare parts. Rey meets Finn the day after he meets BB-8 at the Niima outpost, wearing Poe Dameron's jacket, which BB-8 immediately recognises.
